Abstract
This episode is part of the microseries *AiuĂª: Listening to the Sounds of Quilombos*, produced by Brazilian documentary filmmakers who have worked to establish dialogues with quilombola communities and who have created an immersive experience that highlights the historical, political, cultural, economic and social importance of quilombos in Brazil. This video presents Quilombo Alto do TororĂ³, located in the city of Salvador. It is a quilombola community in which subsistence traditions include fishing, the gathering of natural resources, and farming. It is also an urban quilombo located in the state capital. Because of the installation of a naval base in the region in 1970, the community faces a conflict with the Brazilian Navy over the appropriation and use of territory in the Aratu Bay area. Various Quilombola families use the diverse ecosystem of this large cove for their subsistence, through gathering in the mangroves and artisanal fishing.AiuĂª: Listening to the Sounds of Quilombos – E09 Quilombo Alto do TororĂ³
