Abstract
This episode is part of the microseries *Aiuê: Listening to the Sounds of Quilombos*, produced by Brazilian documentary filmmakers who have worked to establish dialogues with quilombola communities and who have created an immersive experience that highlights the historical, political, cultural, economic and social importance of quilombos in Brazil. This video presents the Quilombola Territory of Ilha de Maré composed of the communities of Bananeiras, Ponta Grossa, Porto dos Cavalos, Martelo and Praia Grande. The quilombolas of Ilha de Maré survive from fishing, shellfish farming, and subsistence agriculture. However, the territory is experiencing a series of environmental problems resulting from port activities and industrial emissions in the region. These have caused chemical contamination in the environment in which the community lives.Aiuê: Listening to the Sounds of Quilombos – E08 Quilombo Ilha de Maré
