Abstract

NUESTRO MUNDO (OUR WORLD) is a story narrated poetically by Ruth, a teenager of Quechua origin who reflects about her life in the Lomas de Chalhuani, on the outskirts of Lima. The documentary presents a difficult reality, in which Quechua migrants live in the invisibility of social systems, but Ruth expresses her love for books and her family with great conviction, and it is from that love, talents and own resources, that she and her family have built a library that is a space of transformation and hope for the community.

This short film is part of the “Villa Inmigrante” collection, created and produced by Obed Arango, who visited the area between 2021 and 2023, to interview residents, record, and photograph them.

A documentary film supported by the “Just Futures” initiative from UPenn and the Mellon Foundation in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Latin American Studies, and the Independence Public Media Foundation.

Produced by the Center for Culture, Art, Labor, and Education (CCATE)/ REVARTE.
