Abstract
Names Unknown Gay and Transgender People | Murdered | 1980s In the period of armed conflict, the communist militant group Sendero Lumino - so (Shining Path) performed acts of “social cleansing” by infiltrating neighborhoods, sweeping out those they considered undesirables, which were primarily transgender people, homosexuals, and sex workers. Victims were often raped and tortured by mutilation before they were killed. Their bodies were dumped in streams, rivers, or piled on roadsides. Locals indicated this section of a nearby stream was a frequent dumping ground. Calle Poetas and Ciro Alegria, Yarinacocha, Pucallpa, Peru
